On Thursday, December 5, Archbishop Makarios of Australia received a group of Orthodox faithful from Germany, specifically from the state of Baden-Württemberg, at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Sydney.
The group was led by clergymen Sosipatros Savvidis, Archimandrite, and Athanasios Eleftheriou, Presbyter, representing the parishes of Sts. Methodios and Cyril in Kirchheim unter Teck and St. James the Brother of the Lord in Mühlacker, respectively.
Archbishop Makarios warmly welcomed the visitors and gave them a tour of the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, where he shared insights into its history and recent renovations. He then received them in the Archbishop’s Office where they had a fruitful discussion about the life of the Church and the Greek Diaspora in both Australia and Germany.
At the end of the visit, after exchanging greetings for Christmas and the Holy Twelve Days, the Archbishop presented all the visitors with commemorative coins from the special series issued by the Holy Archdiocese of Australia on the occasion of its Centennial. He also asked the two clergy to convey his fraternal greetings to Metropolitan Augustine of Germany.
