On Monday July 4, 2022, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, as the representative of the Orthodox Church in Belgium before the Belgian authorities, received at the headquarters of the Holy Metropolis in Brussels the Commander of the Belgian Military Chaplaincy Service, General Pierre Neirinckx, MD.
The General visited the Metropolitan of Belgium in the context of the establishment of an Orthodox service in the Belgian Army.
The exchange of views took place in a climate of mutual respect and understanding, and the General assured Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium of the importance and need for pastoral, worshipping and spiritual support in the army corps for the expansion of military service in Belgium through Orthodox chaplains.
