The Official Choir of the Women in Byzantine Music Worldwide Association, “Psaltries Choir of Melbourne,” was established at the beginning of 2022 – Psaltria being a revival of an ancient term for female chanters.
Regular rehearsals and classes are held under the guidance and direction of Nektaria Karantzi, a globally acclaimed vocalist and icon of the contemporary Byzantine music community and locally led by Ioanna Nikoloulea.
The Psaltries Choir of Melbourne specializes and is devoted to the dissemination and study of Byzantine chanting, highlighting the beauty of the female approach to Byzantine Hymns.
With the blessing of Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, the Psaltries Choir of Melbourne chants at selected and significant appearances such as sacraments, Divine Liturgies, and events.
ORTHODOX ARTS FESTIVAL
This year, the Psaltries Choir of Melbourne participated in The Orthodox Arts Festival, which is an online event devoted to Orthodox Ideals to provide possibilities for all Christian Artists, as well as to share their combined creativity and inspiration with the rest of the world. The Psaltries Choir of Melbourne is the only chanters within Australia who were shortlisted to participate in the festival and calls upon the Greek Community of Melbourne to get behind them. BETWEEN EAST AND WEST
The Psaltries Choir of Melbourne will perform with Nektaria Karantzi at the Hellenic Museum at the Between East and West event, a three-day celebration of Byzantine food and music on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

PSALTRIES CHOIR OF MELBOURNE
The Official Choir of the Women in Byzantine Music Worldwide Association “Psaltries” was established in Greece on December 2017, four years after the Association was established by Nektaria Karantzi, the prominent Greek vocalist of the sacred music who is acclaimed as one of the most important female voices in byzantine chant worldwide.
Since the beginning of 2022, a branch of the Psaltries Choir was established in Melbourne, where regular rehearsals and classes are also held under the guidance and direction of Nektaria Karantzi and, locally coordinated by Ioanna Nikoloulea.
The Psaltries Choir of Melbourne specialises and is devoted to the dissemination and study of Byzantine chanting, highlighting the beauty of the female approach to Byzantine Hymns.
