Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew together with Pope Francis attended on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Pontifical University of Lateran, the inauguration of the Chair of Ecology and Environment, named after the Ecumenical Patriarch and Pope Francis.
The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, Chancellor of the University, Vincenzo Buonomo, Rector, and at the end the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Pope gave a speech.
This new cycle of studies will contribute to a better knowledge of the issues of environmental protection.
In the afternoon, the two Ecclesiastical Leaders participated in the final event of the annual meeting organized again this year by the community of Sant ‘Egidio in the historic site of the Colosseum.
The event was attended by representatives of the Holy Orthodox Churches of Moscow, Serbia, and Romania, as well as other Ancient Eastern Churches and religious communities. The ceremony was also attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In the evening, the Patriarch paid an official visit at the residence of the Ambassador of Lebanon in Italy Mira Dahir.
