As a part of the 2021 Bicentenary program of the National Committee of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia commemorative series dedicated to the 200th year anniversary of the Greek Revolution 1821 will take place.
The events are organized by St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in conjunction with the Department of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies, University of Sydney, and St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College.
The line up for this year’s series is:
- Archbishop Makarios of Australia, “The Orthodox Clergy during the Ottoman occupation”, Thursday 13th May 2021 7 p.m at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church, Mascot.
- Dr. Mario Baghos, Senior Lecturer in Patristics- “The Fall of the City in 1453 and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.” Thursday 27th of May 2021 7 p.m at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church.
- Konstantinos Kalymnios, lawyer, poet, journalist. “St. Kosmas the Aetolian and His Legacy”, Friday 11th of June 2021 at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church
- Fr. Gerasimos Koutsouras, parish priest of St. George. Rose Bay/ Historian, “The Orthodox Church and the Enlightenment”, Thursday 24th of June 2021 7 p.m at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church

- A special lecture will be also held at the AAIA University of Sydney by Dr. Stavros Paspalas, Acting Director of AAIA, “19th century Athens and the archaeological excavations on the Acropolis after the Greek Revolution” on Thursday the 30th of September 2021 7 p.m
