In a full-page article in yesterday’s issue of the New York Times, prominent expatriate businessmen are calling on the United States government to take action to stop the escalation of Turkey’s provocative actions against Greece.
As the “National Herald” pointed out in an article, the listing, entitled “Turkey and Greece CAN and MUST live together”, is signed by the businessmen John A. Catsimatidis, Andrew Liveris, Denis Mehiel, Michael Psaros and George P. Stamas.
The text, which is framed by a photo of Hagia Sophia, highlights Turkey’s recent provocative actions against Greece in the region of Southeastern Europe and the Middle East.
Reference was also made to the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque, the illegal activities in the Aegean and in Eastern Mediterranean, the provocative moves in Famagusta and to the Turkish military involvement in Syria, Libya and Iraq and even to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh.
They urge the US to use all available means to prevent the escalation of tensions being attempted by Turkey.
To support Greece’s position in compliance with international law, including the Law of the Sea, and in favor of improving relations through dialogue, while helping to avoid threats of violence, military activity and belligerent rhetoric.
The letter is signed by John A. Catsimatidis, Andrew Liveris, Denis Mehiel, Michael Psaros and George P. Stamas.
