A new chapter in the history of the Patriarchate of Alexandria opens in the city of Helwan, 25 kilometers from Cairo, with the blessing of Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa. The Patriarch performed the consecration of the multi-storey building that is about to be constructed in the churchyard of Saint Spyridon’s Church.
The Patriarch of Alexandria supervised the construction work that is expected to reinvigorate this area.
While performing the consecration service, the Patriarch of Alexandria entered the central construction site with the icon of St. Spyridon and placed an African wooden cross and a piece of consecrated basil.
Patriarch Theodore laid the foundation stone, wishing the Metropolitan of Memphis strength in the work.
“Our great concern is to maintain and upgrade all the premises of the Patriarchate of Alexandria throughout Africa,” said Patriarch Theodore.
“It was a life work, which now, on his initiative and the consecration performed by our Patriarch, comes into being after years,” said Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis with great satisfaction.
The existing youth spiritual center houses tuition centers for five foreign languages and music, and a painting workshop, where about three hundred children, either Christians or Muslims, have the opportunity to receive education under the auspices of the Church.
