On Friday, October 11, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew paid an official visit to the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Sam Mostyn, in Sydney.
The Ecumenical Patriarch was warmly welcomed by the Governor General, and their discussion took place in a cordial atmosphere. They touched on the Greek Orthodox presence in Australia and addressed various topics of mutual interest.
The meeting was also attended by Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, and Grand Ecclesiarch Aetios, Director of the Private Patriarchal Office.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Governor General Mostyn wished the Ecumenical Patriarch a pleasant and fruitful continuation of his visit to the fifth continent. In return, the Ecumenical Patriarch extended his warm wishes for her success in fulfilling the responsibilities of her high office, which she recently assumed.
