The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete has expressed its deep concern regarding the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the rising violence among young people. The Synod convened on Thursday, October 10, 2024, in Heraklion, addressing the matters on its agenda.
In an official communiqué, the Synod stated: “The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete met on October 10, 2024, at its headquarters in Heraklion, deliberating on the issues on its agenda. The Church of Crete expresses profound sorrow over the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and like all people, is deeply distressed by the countless innocent lives lost in these conflicts.”
The Synod also expressed serious concern about the increasing incidents of violence, particularly among young students. The Church attributes the root of this problem to a “spiritual deficit” that characterizes the new century.
“As a Church, we pray to Christ, the Lord of peace, love, and solidarity, to address the spiritual deficit of our time, so that the darkness may be driven from our hearts and the light of Christ may shine within them,” the communiqué concluded.
The Church of Crete’s message calls for reflection and spiritual renewal amidst the turmoil and challenges facing the world today.
