On Monday, October 7, 2024, in the afternoon, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was awarded an honorary doctorate of Theology at a special ceremony held at the Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Mary in Sydney. The honor was conferred by the Roman Catholic University of Notre Dame.
The ceremony featured speeches from the Rector of the University, Christopher Ellison, and its President, Professor Constantine Michael, who both addressed the Patriarch with words of recognition and respect.
In his acceptance speech, Patriarch Bartholomew highlighted the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s unwavering commitment to dialogue as the primary means for resolving differences, fostering reconciliation, and promoting peace globally.
The event concluded with a brief address by Archbishop Makarios, who offered his heartfelt wishes, asking the Lord to grant strength and health to the Ecumenical Patriarch so that he may continue his vital work.
