The year 2025 has been proclaimed the Solemn Year of the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate and the Commemorative Year of 20th-century Romanian Orthodox Spiritual Fathers and Confessors.
In this context, several significant events are scheduled to take place in the coming months. Highlights include:
February 4, 2025 – Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate
The Romanian Orthodox Church will celebrate 100 years since its elevation to the rank of Patriarchate. On this occasion, the general proclamation of the canonization of 16 Romanian Saints will take place, presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, alongside the hierarchs of the Holy Synod. Subsequently, each saint will be locally proclaimed in the diocese that proposed their canonization on their respective feast days.
April 17, 2025 – Preparation and Consecration of Holy Chrism
The preparation and consecration of the Holy Chrism, used in the Sacrament of Chrismation and the consecration of churches, will take place.
April 25, 2025 – 140th Anniversary of Autocephaly
The celebration of 140 years since the recognition of the autocephaly of the Romanian Orthodox Church will coincide with the Feast of the Life-Giving Spring.
May 13–17, 2025 – International Theology Symposium
Bucharest will host an international theological symposium dedicated to the Centennial Year and the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea.
October 26, 2025 – Consecration of the National Cathedral
The National Cathedral will be consecrated and opened for worship. The consecration will be performed by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople and His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in the presence of the members of the Holy Synod.
